Volunteering as a tool of social pedagogy

SYNOPSIS The thesis has a form of a theoretical study with significant relation to practice in professional volunteer supervision in Kladno Volunteer Center. The thesis is divided in 7 parts. Part One is focused on the definition of basic terms such as volunteer, voluntary work. This part deals with the issue of awarding of volunteers. Part Two is devoted to the basic terminology of social pedagogy, including the definition of free time, the phenomenon, which is very important for both voluntary work and social pedagogy. Part Three is centered at history of social pedagogy and voluntary work. Key intersections of the two studied phenomena and their evolution are described. Part Four describes voluntary activities as a social phenomenon. Subparts are focused on the attitude of society towards voluntary work, the myths associated with it, as well as the volunteer work motivation. In part Five, I was trying to grasp volunteering as a tool of social pedagogy. The subparts combine my findings acquired from books and my own practical experience. Part Six is an analysis of a specific case of "Pět P" programme practice. Part Seven - the final one - includes a small scale empirical research. TITTLE: Integration of foreigners from the perspective of volunteer work AUTHOR: Alžběta Končitíková DEPARTMENT: Department of Education SUPERVISOR: PhDr. Miroslava Kovaříková, Ph.D. ABSTRACT: The bachelor thesis deals with the isssue of integration of foreigners from the point of view of volunteer work. The aim of the thesis was to gain experience based on own research in order to create a leaflet usable mainly for the student sof the Faculty of Education. The thesis is dividend into two parts. The theoretical part deals with volunteering, its history in the Czech Republic, motive of volunteering, obstacles and issues of volunteer activities of non - governmental organizations. The research part deals with real opinions of the integration of foreignersfrom the selected organization META. The observation was based on the interview and the method of work was an interview with volunteers. Since the selected volunteers also work for other organizations. I focused on thein opinion about the isme. The practical part of the facts about integration. This summary was the basic for those interested leaflet for those interested in volunteering at the Faculty of Education. Everyday life in Moruš

Thesis "Everyday life in Moruš" deals with everyday life in a small border village on the edge of the Bohemian Forest (Český les). The main focus is on gainful and ennobling brigades in the village and events associated with them. Included is a volunteer fire department, fire teachers' lounge/ pub, carnival entertainment, children's day and maypole. Thesis is based on the literature about anthropological and ethnographic research dealing with everyday life and dividing population on "old-timers" and "newcomers" as it is in theory of Norbert Elias. The practical part is based on qualitative research, complemented by ethnographic methods. Research is using participant observation and semi-structured interviews, which are the ground for the analysis of connections between activities and also influence of participation or non-participation on the perception of individuals given by other villagers. At the same time, the study is posing a question whether there is some importance in being active during social and cultural events, which would project to the life of the villagers. Whether they are somehow stigmatized and judged by other villagers for their absence.
